The character of Jack is my kind of hero, the reluctant superhero. He knows what is right, like most of us do, but he is smart enough that he looks past the superficial fronts of such things and to the deeper reasons behind them. If he lived in our world, even if he still had his powers of wall-crawling and speed-jumping, he would live out a normal productive life and be a general benefit to society … but he doesn't live in our world. Jack lives in the world of brightly costumed superheroes where madmen rob banks in broad daylight and someone with a cape is always nearby to stop them. Jack would not try to stop those bank robbers if he was by himself because, as a reluctant superhero, he doesn't want to endanger himself if he doesn't need to. He knows that the money is insured, that someone with “real” powers will step in soon enough and that he would probably only get in their way or even end up as a liability. But I, the evil writer, want Jack to be a central character of this series-in-the-making. So that's why, if you actually read the whole 250-something questionnaire that I used to delve in to his character, Kim shows up quite a lot. Kim basically wants to kick super-villain butt all day long like her Superman-working-for-the-government father. Kim also thinks Jack should get in on this with her, now that his powers have emerged, and Jack can't help but do whatever Kim tells him to. Reluctantly. I like that this profile reveals several good themes to follow up on for character design (such as green and frogs) as well as how it underlines how important Kim is in his life, and why. I learned that, the more reluctant the hero, the stronger a reason he needs to be a hero.
